E.J. DIMERA
(James Scott)

Tall, dark and handsome EJ Wells came to Salem and turned people's lives upside down. He moved across the hall from Sami and they shared an immediate attraction.

A mysterious gloved hand begin wreaking havoc on the citizens of Salem, mostly members of the Brady family. It was later revealed that the mastermind behind the gloved hand crimes was no other then EJ. It was also revealed that he was Elvis Junior - the son of Susan Banks and Stefano DiMera!

EJ was the prime suspect in the shooting of John Black, and he made plans to leave town. Before he fled to Mexico, he forced Sami to have sex with him in exchange for saving Lucas. A lack of evidence tying EJ to either John's shooting or Tek and Lexie's disappearance left him a free man and he returned to Salem. EJ learned that Sami was pregnant and knew there was a good chance the baby could be his.

Steve remembered EJ's presence when he was being held prisoner by Stefano, and attacked him. EJ subdued Steve by revealing a tarot card. While under EJ's control, Steve kidnapped a comatose John, whose kidney was removed and transplanted into a dying Stefano.

Celeste performed a ritual and told EJ that Sami's baby was his, not Lucas's, but warned that Stefano would harm the baby. Under pressure from Tony, EJ kidnapped Sami so they could harvest the unborn baby's stem cells to save Stefano's life. Sami's pleas changed EJ's mind, and they escaped. Later, Sami told EJ she would only allow the baby's stem cells to be used if it would mean an end to the ongoing Brady-DiMera vendetta. Letters that Sami and Lucas found revealed clues about the origin of the feud. Sami learned she was carrying twins and a DNA test showed that EJ was the father.

Stefano dictated that the only way to end the feud was if EJ and Sami married and raised their twins together. Desperate to have Sami for himself, EJ played up the danger she and her family would be in if she did not comply. After John was killed by a hit-and-run driver, Sami agreed to divorce Lucas and marry EJ. Sami gave birth to the twins, and another DNA test stated that Lucas was the father of the girl and EJ was the father of the boy.

EJ was shot just after he and Sami said their vows. As he got better, he increasingly pressured Sami to live up to her wifely duties. A horrified Sami gave him a harsh reminder that their marriage was a sham and that she would never love him. EJ sought solace at the church on Christmas Eve, and he promised to be a better man if God would give him a second chance with Sami.

Lucas was arrested for shooting EJ. Stefano was determined to kill him, but EJ intervened and saved Lucas's life. Marlena confronted EJ and told him the only way to redeem himself was by helping the Bradys bring down Stefano. EJ broke into the DiMera Mansion and discovered that his father and Rolf were keeping a man in the basement laboratory. EJ revealed the information to Marlena and Sami, and they soon discovered that the presumed-dead John had been Stefano's prisoner all this time!

Though Stefano was sent to jail for kidnapping John, EJ and Sami were still in danger, and were sent to a safe house with the twins for protection. They grew closer, bonding over the care of the babies, but Sami fought against her feelings for EJ. They made plans to get an annulment, but the tragic death of her grandfather stalled them. Sami leaned on EJ for support. Just as they were about to make the annulment official, EJ learned that his visa was about to expire and he was going to be deported. Desperate to keep her son's father in the country, Sami agreed to stay married.

EJ met Nicole when she returned to town and became his client in her divorce proceedings against Victor. Although EJ was in love with Sami, he was charmed by bad girl Nicole. After Lucas told Sami he wanted her to move on, she did. She and EJ made love, just in time for Lucas to be released from prison and walk in on them. Sami walked out on EJ, however, after she learned he had bribed the immigration agent so she would stay married.

When EJ and Nicole were trapped in an elevator, they gave into their passion. Nicole ended up getting pregnant, but miscarried the baby. She kept this a secret from EJ. Sami also kept a secret, when she learned she was also pregnant with EJ’s baby. Nicole happily accepted when EJ proposed marriage. She soon met pregnant teenager Mia, who agreed to give Nicole her baby. When Nicole uncovered what Sami was up to, she lured her to Dr. Baker's clinic to give birth, then convinced the doctor to switch babies. She and EJ named Sami's baby Sydney. When Sami returned home, she told everyone that she had adopted a baby, Grace.

Philip accidentally killed Tony, Stefano hired a hitman to retaliate, then the stakes were raised when Victor kidnapped Stefano. EJ hired the Kiriakis gardener to kidnap Stephanie and the families eventually made a swap and called a truce.

When baby Grace died, Sami told EJ the "truth," that the baby was his. He was devastated and vowed revenge on Sami. He presented her with custody papers for Johnny, but guilty Nicole convinced him to drop the suit.

After Brady accidentally revealed to EJ that Nicole had a secret, she told him about the miscarriage, but kept mum about the baby switch. He kicked her and Sydney out of the mansion. Rafe eventually figured out the baby switch and returned Sydney to Sami. Nicole was forced to reveal everything to EJ, who then learned another hard truth: his father had known about the baby switch all along. He nearly strangled his father, then declared he was moving out of the mansion, cutting all ties, and Stefano would never see his grandchildren again.

Nicole went to the mansion to make amends with the people she had hurt, and found Sydney alone while EJ and Sami argued in the next room. She took the baby and headed to Cleveland. Nicole was knocked unconscious and someone kidnapped Sydney. She only remembered a woman's voice and a pair of designer boots. Manipulative EJ convinced Sami to lie to Rafe and hide any information they received from the kidnapper.

It was revealed that EJ was really behind the kidnapping! He wanted to get back at Sami for keeping his child a secret. He also wanted to drive Sami and Rafe apart so that she ended up with nothing. He finally "found" Sydney, and looked like a hero in Sami's eyes. EJ and Sami grew closer. He started out wanting to punish Sami; he ended up in love with her again. He convinced her to marry him, but, before they said "I do," Rafe turned up with the evidence that EJ kidnapped Sydney. Sami swore she would never forgive him. In fact, when she returned to the mansion to confront him, she found him passed out drunk, with a gun. She took the gun and shot EJ in the head!

EJ recovered, and claimed initially to believe he and Sami were married. He finally learned the "truth," but still didn't know for sure who had pulled the trigger.

Arianna told EJ that she had proof of who shot him. Unfortunately, before she could give it to him, she was killed by a hit-and-run driver.

Eventually, Nicole ended up with Arianna's proof. She tried to blackmail Sami to arrange visitation time with Sydney, but was turned down. She went to EJ with the same deal. He took the arrangement one step further and asked Nicole to marry him so that his custody case against Sami would be even stronger. Nicole reluctantly agreed, but she eventually began to develop feelings for EJ.

Stefano and EJ had additional plans to get back at Sami. They hired a criminal named Arnold, gave him plastic surgery, and trained him to act as Rafe. when Rafe ended up in the hospital after a car accident, Stefano swapped Arnold for Rafe, with the goal of ruining Sami's life.

A few weeks before her and EJ's wedding day, Nicole's sister, Taylor, showed up in Salem and had a chance meeting with EJ on the pier. The two fell in love at first sight, despite not knowing who the other was. It wasn't until the wedding day that Taylor realized that she was in love with her sister's husband. After the wedding, EJ and Taylor started a relationship.

Arnold realized that Fay had seen him talking to Stefano and EJ and he killed her. Since Fay had a heart condition, everyone, including EJ, assumed that she had a heart attack and fell down the stairs. EJ continued to comfort both Nicole and Taylor over the loss of their mother. He eventually proposed to Taylor, convincing her that he would ask Nicole for a divorce.

Nicole caught Taylor and EJ kissing. She was heartbroken, but determined to make both of them pay. She didn't have to wait long. Bo and Hope figured out that Arnold was an imposter and teamed up with Sami and Rafe to get proof that the DiMeras were responsible. Eventually, Arnold agreed to testify against EJ and Stefano in exchange for immunity and witness protection. Just as they were about to be booked, however, some other inmates recognizes Arnold as Rafe and beat him to death. Stefano and EJ had to be released. Taylor still believed that EJ had lied to her and she broke off their engagement.

EJ claimed that he was a changed man and signed over full custody of Johnny and Sydney to Sami. He then set out to redeem his family name. He decided to run for mayor and, he convinced Nicole to serve as his campaign manager. While working on the campaign, she realized that she never stopped loving him.

EJ orchestrated a grand scheme in which he framed John Black for corporate embezzlement. The money John lost was Salem's civil servant pension fund, which Abe had invested in his company. John was arrested and EJ's approval numbers sky-rocketed.

On the morning of John's trial, the Brady family gathered at the pub to wish him well. One of the Salem police officers who had lost his retirement fund tracked them down and tried to shoot John. During the commotion, Johnny went missing. Sami and EJ panicked.

Thinking that he had something to do with the disappearance, Sami went to the DiMera mansion to confront EJ. While she was there, a news report came on TV announcing that the body of a boy had been identified as Johnny. The report turned out to be false, but Sami and EJ did not know that at the time. Overwrought with the grief of their "dead" son, they had sex.

Meanwhile, Rafe and Will found Johnny. Will went to the DiMera mansion to tell EJ the good news and instead walked in on him and Sami together. He immediately left and vowed never to forgive his mother. Neither Sami nor EJ knew that Will was ever there.

Later, Will showed up at the DiMera mansion and attempted to blackmail EJ with the secret about sleeping with Sami. He wanted money to leave town. Unfortunately for Will, EJ had a little blackmail material of his own. He knew that it was Will who shot him in 2007, and Lucas had taken the fall. If Will wanted to avoid going to prison for attempted murder, he had to go to work for EJ's campaign. Reluctantly, Will agreed. Will's tasks included stealing Abe's job plan and picking up campaign posters.

Despite some mishaps along the way, EJ was elected mayor and he and Nicole renewed their relationship. In fact, he even got down on one knee and proposed again. Unfortunately, that same evening, Rafe overheard Will telling Sonny about what he had seen that night at the DiMera mansion. Rafe confronted EJ, and Nicole learned the truth. She walked out on EJ, leaving him alone.
