CHLOE LANE
(Nadia Bjorlin)
When Chloe first came to Salem, she was known to her high school classmates as "Ghoul Girl." It didn't take long before she blossomed into the beautiful young woman everyone came to know and love -- and shed that nasty nickname.
Part of the reason she blossomed was her family life. Although her relationship with her parents, particularly with Nancy, was contentious at best, once she realized that they truly did love her, it helped her to grow.
Chloe's true beauty was on display the night of the first Last Blast. She was escorted by Philip Kiriakis -- who had to take her after losing a bet. Once he saw her in her red dress, though, he was thrilled to be with her and they started dating. Philip's father Victor, however, was none too pleased about their relationship and did everything in his power to stop it.
This lovely lady wasn't just beautiful, though. She was also smart -- very smart. She graduated at the top of her class from Salem High and, worried about her own health, made an emotionally-charged speech.
The Last Blast Dance is an important part of the school year at Salem High. Chloe had reconciled with Mimi after the nasty incident at the previous year's dance. Mimi and Jan conspired to show naked photos of Chloe during the slide show and make it look as if she had an X-rated website. This incident sparked a rift between Chloe and Philip and almost sent Jan and Mimi to jail.
Chloe collapsed at the Last Blast and was rushed to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with leukemia. She underwent chemotherapy and fought her disease with Brady constantly by her side. The stuffed butterfly he bought her inspired a visit from the ghost of his mother Isabella, who explained to him that Chloe needed to go through her fight alone.
After Chloe was diagnosed, Nancy decided to get pregnant in the hopes that her new baby would be a bone marrow match for her daughter. The fact that Craig was really Chloe's father helped. The baby, who Chloe named Joy, was indeed a joyous gift. Her bone marrow matched and this tiny baby was able to save Chloe's life.
After her ordeal, Chloe received the honor -- usually held by a Horton -- of reading the Christmas story to the children at the hospital. Although not known for her sentimentality, this gesture truly touched Chloe.
When she was healthy, Brady took Chloe on what was supposed to be a glamorous trip to Hollywood. Instead, their plane took a detour and they ended up in a rustic mountain cabin. No matter. Being so isolated helped Chloe to overcome her fears and admit she loved Brady. They made love for the first time while on their wintry retreat.
Being healthy meant pursuing her dream of becoming an opera diva. With a little nudge from Victor Kiriakis -- who was no happier with Chloe dating his grandson than he was when she and Philip were a couple -- it looked as if her dream would come true. She was offered a position with a European company that proved too good to pass up. With Brady's insistence, she sang one final song at the Blue Note and was gone.
But she wasn't gone for good. Victor has a habit of meddling in relationships that is just too hard to break. He didn't think Chloe was good enough for Brady, but Nicole was even worse. He brought Chloe back to Salem during Christmas to help keep his wife away from his grandson. Brady and Chloe had a beautiful reunion.
When Chloe first returned, she was in the hospital, the victim of a horrible crash. She was badly scarred and her vocal cords were injured. Everyone feared she would never sing again; she didn't feel she was the same woman Brady fell in love with. So Nancy, against her will, went back to Salem to tell Brady that Chloe had died. She begged her daughter to tell Brady the truth, but she stoically refused.
Even after she returned to Salem, Chloe kept herself hidden from Brady. She couldn't stand the fact that he seemed to be growing closer to Nicole, but she also couldn't reveal herself to him, not until her scars healed. Then, Nicole learned that Chloe was alive and in Salem and, using a little enlightened self-interest, agreed to keep the secret.
Eventually, of course, the truth came out. Brady knew Nicole was hiding something and he finally figured out what that something was – Chloe. He couldn't believe she was there – alive – and had been hiding from him. And he was furious that Nicole had been helping her. He dumped Nicole, but it wasn't all smooth sailing for him and Chloe. She still wanted to be "whole" before she gave herself to him completely.
But nothing could keep Brady and Chloe apart forever. She got the surgery that healed her scars and they were married in a glorious, gorgeous ceremony. Then they left on an extended honeymoon.
Now, Chloe is back. It seems like she's going to stir up some trouble with her old friends, Shawn, Belle and Philip. But where's her husband, Brady? That remains to be seen.
