E. J. WELLS
(James Scott)

EJ DiMera represents the next generation of DiMeras. A tall, dark and handsome EJ Wells came to town to do more then just drive the ladies of Salem crazy. He had a deeper and more sinister mission: to help bring the DiMera name back into Salem!

EJ Wells came into the town of Salem and turned people's lives upside down. He moved across the hall from Sami Brady, who he immediately was drawn to. Kate Roberts saw the attraction and worked on keeping EJ as a roadblock to keep Sami from her son, Lucas.

During 2006, a mysterious gloved hand begin wreaking havoc on the citizens of Salem, mostly members of the Brady family. It was later revealed that the mastermind behind the gloved hand crimes was no other then EJ Wells. It was also revealed that EJ Wells was Elvis Junior - the son of Susan Banks and Stefano DiMera!

EJ was the prime suspect in the shooting of John Black, and he made plans to leave town before he was caught. Before EJ fled to Mexico, he accomplished one more thing that he in town to do - have sex with Sami Brady. It wasn't the passionate exchange that he had hoped for; in fact, it was the exact opposite. Sami and Lucas were spending a romantic weekend in a remote cabin, but a snowstorm caused the collapse of their cabin. A giant beam fell on Lucas and Sami went for help.

Sami flagged down a passing car, and the driver was EJ - on his way out of town. EJ was more then willing to help save Lucas' life, for a price. He demanded that Sami have sex with him. A very reluctant and emotional Sami obliged. After EJ was finished, he returned to the cabin and lifted the beam off an unconscious Lucas, but that was all. Sami begged EJ to help take Lucas to the hospital, but it was too late. EJ left for Mexico.

EJ returned to Salem, where a lack of evidence tying him to John's shooting or Tek and Lexie's disappearance left him a free man. He continued to wreak havoc on Sami and Lucas, and even hired a broke and desperate Lucas so he could spy on him. EJ soon learned that Sami was pregnant. He knew there was a good chance the baby could be his, and blackmailed Sami with this information. He manipulated her into spying on Roman and Bo, who were still convinced EJ was behind John's shooting and the other black glove crimes.

Another subject of EJ's torment was Steve Johnson. While in therapy, Steve remembered EJ's presence when he was being held prisoner by Stefano, and attacked him. EJ subdued Steve by revealing a tarot card. While under EJ's control, Steve kidnapped a comatose John, whose kidney was removed and transplanted into a dying Stefano.

EJ learned that Sami lied to him when she said her baby was Lucas'. He vowed to tell Lucas the truth if Sami didn't agree to run away with him. Sami agreed, but unbeknownst to EJ, Sami was conspiring with Celeste to kill him! Sami planned to meet EJ at the cabin where she had gone with Lucas, but couldn't go through with murder. However, the cabin was accidentally set on fire and Sami believed EJ was dead. A short time later, EJ resurfaced and revealed that Sami and Celeste's "plot" to kill him was really a plot between him and Celeste. EJ continued to torment Sami as her wedding day neared.

Worried that Shawn could connect him to his past crimes, EJ made an agreement with Philip to share any information about Shawn's whereabouts (while he was on the run with Belle and Claire.) When Philip broke that agreement, EJ got the information out of Kate after threatening Billie. EJ exerted control over Steve and ordered him to go to the island of Tinda Lau and kill Shawn Brady. (Steve's good side got the better of him and he did not follow through.)

Lucas and Sami's wedding day arrived. Kate - not EJ - tried to stop the wedding by revealing that EJ and Sami had sex. Lucas stood by Sami and they married. EJ followed the newlyweds to their honeymoon destination in New Orleans. While there, Celeste performed a ritual and told EJ that Sami's baby was his, not Lucas', but warned that Stefano would harm the baby.

Under pressure from Tony, EJ kidnapped Sami so they could harvest the unborn baby's stem cells to save Stefano's life. Sami's pleas changed EJ's mind, and they escaped before Tony caused her or the baby any harm. Later, Sami told EJ she would only allow the baby's stem cells to be used if it would mean an end to the ongoing Brady-DiMera vendetta. Tony rejected that notion and threatened both EJ and Sami.

Meanwhile, letters that Sami and Lucas found in the mansion in New Orleans revealed clues about the origin of the ongoing feud between the families. The danger to Sami and her family grew as they got closer to the truth. Sami learned she was carrying twins and a DNA test showed that EJ was the father.

EJ's resentment towards his father and brother prompted him to spy on them for the Bradys, but his word remained questionable. Stefano dictated that the only way to end the feud was if EJ and Sami married and raised their twins together, but Sami resisted. Later, it was revealed that the babies were Lucas' and that Kate paid to have the test results show the opposite. Desperate to have Sami for himself, EJ played up the danger she and her family would be in if she did not comply. After John was killed by a hit-and-run driver, Sami agreed to divorce Lucas and marry EJ.

Sami gave birth to the twins, and another DNA test stated that Lucas was the father of the girl and EJ was the father of the boy. After she recovered, EJ pushed her to marry.

At the small ceremony, EJ was shot just after he and Sami said their vows. Stefano demanded Sami stand by her new husband as he recovered in the hospital, and continued to threaten the Bradys if she did not do as he said. As the Salem police department sought the identity of the shooter, EJ learned he might not walk again. Distraught, he urged Sami to go back to Lucas, but Sami refused. She convinced EJ that she truly cared for him and wanted him to get well for the sake of their son.

Sami tried to fulfill her promise to Stefano by seeing EJ through his recuperation, but found herself torn by her feelings for Lucas. As EJ got better, he increasingly pressured Sami to live up to her wifely duties. A horrified Sami gave him a harsh reminder that their marriage was a sham and that she would never love him. EJ sought solace at the church on Christmas Eve, and he promised to be a better man if God would give him a second chance with Sami.

Evidence that Lucas was behind EJ's shooting piled up, and he was arrested. Stefano was determined to kill Lucas for revenge, but EJ intervened and saved Lucas' life. Lucas finally admitted his crime, and was sent away to state prison. Later, Marlena confronted EJ and told him the only way to redeem himself was by helping the Bradys bring down Stefano. EJ broke into the DiMera Mansion and discovered that his father and Rolf were keeping "a man" in the basement laboratory. EJ revealed the information to Marlena and Sami, and they soon discovered that the presumed-dead John had been Stefano's prisoner all this time!

Though Stefano was sent to jail for kidnapping John, EJ and Sami were still in danger, and were sent to a safe house with the twins for protection. They grew closer, bonding over the care of the babies, but Sami fought against her feelings for EJ. Later, Stefano was found in a catatonic state in his cell, and the threat was lifted. Sami and EJ made plans to get an annulment, but the tragic death of her grandfather stalled them. Sami leaned on EJ for support. Just as they were about to make the annulment official, EJ learned that his visa was about to expire and he was going to be deported. Desperate to keep her son's father in the country, Sami agreed to stay married until they could figure out another plan. EJ suspected Sami has other reasons (like the feelings she has for him), but he didn't push.

How long will they be able to keep up the charade? If EJ gets his way, it will be forever. ;-)
