SAMI BRADY
(Alison Sweeney)
Sami and her brother, Eric, were raised in Denver, Colorado by their maternal grandparents. She returned to Salem in 1992 as a teenager and wasted no time getting herself into trouble. Although she has a wholesome good girl appearance, Sami is known for her dark and devious side. Just a few weeks after her arrival, Sami began her long-term seduction of her sister Carrie's boyfriend, Austin Reed. Sami befriended newcomer Lucas Roberts and the two joined forces to break Carrie and Austin apart. Despite all of her radical efforts to win Austin over, he was in love with Carrie. She even became bulimic in an attempt to get Austin's attention. She even became bulimic in an attempt to get Austin's attention. Back at home, Sami was meddling in her mother, Marlena's business as well. She uncovered Marlena's affair with John Black and discovered that her little sister, Belle, was John's biological daughter. She saw Belle as a constant reminder of her mother's mistake and kidnapped her to get her away from the family. John, however, found Belle and the two were reunited. Later, Sami began dating Alan who eventually raped her. Her testimony did not hold up in court and the case was subsequently dropped. Later, Alan attacked her and threatened her at gunpoint but Sami gained control of the situation and shot him in the groin, castrating him. After the ordeal, she turned to Lucas for comfort and couple made love thereby conceiving baby Will. Sami, however, was still in love with Austin and she drugged him in order to get him into bed. After Austin and Sami made love, he realized his mistake and vowed that it would never happen again. Sami used her pregnancy to tear Austin and Carrie apart. Sami used her pregnancy to tear Austin and Carrie apart. She interrupted their wedding with the false news that Austin was her baby's father. Sami gave birth to baby Will and continued to use him to win Austin over from Carrie. When Will was kidnapped and sold on the black market in France, Austin and Sami were forced to legally marry in order to regain custody of their child. Austin planned to annul the marriage as soon as they returned to Salem but a series of accidents prevented the two from splitting. Sami faked amnesia for months in order to manipulate both Austin and her family but she was eventually found out. Will's paternity was revealed and Austin married Carrie. Next, Sami had a brief affair with aspiring US citizen, Franco Kelly. The two were engaged but Austin found Franco having an affair with a stripper named Candi and told Sami moments before the wedding. Sami threatened to kill him and moments later, Franco was found dead (Lucas shot him). Sami was convicted of the crime and sentenced to die by lethal injection. Austin kidnapped Will and Sami and hid them from authorities but she was eventually recaptured. Seconds before her injection, Sami was cleared of the crime. A free citizen again, Sami reverted to her "evil" ways to gain custody of Will and to pry Austin and Carrie apart. Even though Austin learned that he wasn't the father, he committed himself to raising young Will. Sami and Austin continued to grow closer and Carrie and Austin eventually divorced. Sami and Austin moved in with one another at the Kiriakis mansion. Of course, just because Austin and Carrie divorced, that didn't mean Sami had her man. Of course, just because Austin and Carrie divorced, that didn't mean Sami had her man. He spent time with Greta and the two grew closer. In the meantime, Sami allowed herself to be wooed by Brandon and the two had several "dates" and she enlisted the help of both him and Nicole to help her gain custody of Will. She and Brandon succeeded, after he seduced and married Angela Moroni. Angela's dying request, at the Coronation Massacre, was that her father give Sami the tape that proved Lucas's guilt. After Austin overheard an argument between Lucas and Sami that revealed all of her many lies, he left her at the altar in a very emotional scene. A heartbroken Sami went back to Salem with an even bigger problem. Lucas had tape-recorded their argument and eventually Victor got hold of the tape. He forced Sami to let Lucas see Will and later Nicole had him use the tape to keep Sami away from Brandon. However, you can't keep Sami down for long. She and Brandon eventually got together. Nicole is still out to get her, however, and Victor has promised her that both Sami and Kate will be destroyed as his wedding present to his young bride. Luckily for Sami, his prophecy didn't come to pass. By the time of Victor and Nicole's wedding, he really wasn't interested in pleasing his young bride. Sami prepared for her future with Brandon, but once again, she lied to him. She believed that after a one-night stand, Brandon was the father of Lexie's baby. She knew that if Brandon found out, he would want to do the responsible thing and that would mean leaving Sami. She knew that the secret would get out, thanks to the fact that a lab tech at the hospital knew her secret, so the night Lexie's baby was born, Sami forced Brandon to go to a justice of the peace and exchange vows. Meanwhile, Lucas, Kate and Nicole were hot on her tracks. They tracked the newlyweds down to the Salem Inn and exposed Sami's secret. Brandon went to the hospital and confronted Lexie, where it came out that Sami had been tricked. Abe was really the father. Brandon left Salem – and Sami – shortly thereafter. Sami went into a downward spiral. Believing that Tony was ultimately responsible for Lexie's trick, she confronted him at the DiMera Mansion. She went out of control and fell through the French doors. She was badly injured and very nearly died; she recovered everything but the power of speech. Although a silent Sami could be a good thing for many Salemites, she did eventually regain her voice, but not before having some hot sexual fantasies about Lucas. When the Salem Stalker started her murderous spree, Sami was one of the seven main suspects. There was plenty to indict her but, of course, she wasn't guilty. Her mother Marlena was. Sami refused to believe that her beloved mother could be responsible for orchestrating a killing spree like this and blamed John and Kate for setting her up. When Marlena was killed in what looked like an escape attempt, Sami added Bo to the blame game. Meanwhile, in spite or because of the murders, Sami and Lucas's relationship heated up. They no longer only fantasized about making love, they actually did it. Eventually, they became engaged, but Kate couldn't let the wedding actually happen. And Sami knew it.
Scheming Kate tried everything in her power to stop the wedding from occurring, even throwing her hat in with another of Sami's nemeses, Eugenia. Together, they orchestrated the return of Brandon Walker and terrified Sami in the process. She was so scared, in fact, that when she learned where Brandon was staying the night before her wedding, she went there to make sure he'd stay away. Unfortunately, she played right into Kate's plans. Kate drugged them both and stuck them in bed naked together. Then, she went to Lucas's, where she told him she'd hired a private investigator who'd tailed Sami to that hotel. Lucas showed up, found Sami and Brandon naked together and the wedding was off!
Desperate, sobbing Sami showed up in Lucas's apartment that morning in her wedding dress. Lucas ripped up their wedding license. Sami tried to blame Kate, and even Brandon showed up and did the same, but Kate squirmed her way out of it. Devastated Sami returned home and broke down.
Of course, Sami never stays down for long. She started getting mysterious messages about "revenge" and it wasn't long before she'd been transformed into a man named "Stan." She didn't know that it was Tony whose evil deeds she was carrying out, she only knew she loved getting back at the people she hated. Targets included John Black, whom she tempted with drugs, and Nicole and Brady. As "Stan," Sami even followed Lucas, Rex, Shawn and Brady when they went behind enemy lines to rescue Philip. It was here that she learned Tony was the one pulling her strings; she also was discovered, out of her disguise, and had to explain how she got there. Ultimately, Sami helped to rescue the other Salemites and they returned home.
Eventually, the truth about what Kate had done came out. Lucas didn't know why he had ever doubted Sami and the two of them planned to marry – again. But, as usual, Kate couldn't bear the thought of one of her sons associating with Sami. With a little help from Nicole, Kate uncovered the truth – Sami was "Stan!" "Stan" walked into Lucas and Sami's wedding, much to the bride's surprise. Kate pulled off her mask and told everyone the truth – with irrefutable evidence – that Sami had been "Stan!" Lucas couldn't tolerate that and the wedding was off. Luckily, there was someone there to comfort Sami – Austin.
Austin had returned for the wedding. He was late, but he was there to pick up the pieces. He gave Sami a little tough love and helped her get back on her feet. After he decided to stay in Salem and start his own business, Sami went to work for him and they stayed – together with Nicole! – in her apartment. And Sami set her sites – romantically – on Austin. Of course, she had competition from Nicole and from the newly-returned Carrie. Nicole left town, leaving only Carrie as competition. And there was another competition, between Lucas and Austin for Carrie's affection. Sami knew she had to get Carrie to choose Lucas and she used one of her old friends to do it – blackmail. She blackmailed Lexie – whom she knew was having an affair with Tek – to tell Carrie a horrible lie. If Carrie and Austin were to have children, they would have terrible birth defects. Desperate to have children, Carrie chose Lucas. And before she knew it, she was pregnant.
Now, all Sami had to do was get Austin to choose her. Eventually, she succeeded. Austin proposed, but on that same night she got a heart-stopping message: a mysterious someone knew about her blackmail. She told new friend EJ about the note and he told her she had to tell Austin the truth. She planned to, but then learned that Carrie wasn't pregnant – and never would be. All bets were off. She knew if Austin and Carrie found out the truth, they would end up together and she would end up alone.
On her big day, Sami got a phone call; if she went through with the wedding, the truth would come out about her blackmail and she'd lose everyone she loved. This time, Sami was the one to do the leaving and she left Austin at the altar. She gave him back his ring and told him she could never marry him.
After Lucas caught Carrie and Austin together, his marriage ended and he and Sami grew closer. That ended, however, when the 'gloved hand' left a note detailing Sami's deception about Austin and Carrie's potential progeny. Neither Lucas nor Austin wanted anything to do with Sami, ever again. Fortunately, she had someone to turn to: EJ. He told her she shouldn't apologize for who she was and she liked that idea.
As Sami and EJ grew closer, Lucas realized he still had feelings for Sami and sabotaged her relationship with EJ. Sami and Lucas grew closer, but she told him she wanted to wait and be sure of their feelings before they took their relationship to the next level.
After Sami went to work for Mythic, she learned the truth about EJ. He was working for the DiMeras! The police were closing in on him and Sami agreed to help them set a trap. She told EJ she would meet him to help him get past a police roadblock; in reality, she was leaving on a ski getaway with Lucas. Unfortunately, their car broke down and they ended up in an abandoned cabin where they made love. While they were inside, however, the roof collapsed, trapping Lucas. Sami set out to find help, but only one person stopped. EJ.
EJ agreed to help Sami, on one condition. She had to have sex with him! With no choice, Sami agreed. She and EJ had sex, then he came back with her to the cabin and freed Lucas. Everyone thought Sami was a hero when she told them she lifted the beam off of Lucas by herself. Only she knew the horrible truth. And Kate, of course, suspected something else had happened. Sami was honored with a police citation for her good deed.
Sami got a call from EJ, who was in Mexico. Sami begged him not to ruin her life. EJ assured her everything would be fine as long as she kept her mouth shut about how he made his escape.
Lucas and Sami learned that Lexie and Tek were missing. Sami immediately thought EJ killed them. She confessed to Lucas that she was pregnant, hiding that there was a 50% chance the baby is EJ's. Sami asked Lucas to keep her pregnancy a secret.
Sami and Lucas showed up to tell their story for the TV docu-drama that Kate had secretly arranged. Sami was unable to lift the beam in the re-enactment. Lucas accidentally revealed to Kate that Sami was pregnant. The next day, Sami called the TV network to remove the re-enactment footage and learned the show had been cancelled. Sami realized Kate set her up. Roman called Sami to the police station where she insisted she was telling the truth about the night she saved Lucas. When Roman stepped out, she stole a disk from EJ's case file labeled "John Black Surveillance."
At a hotel conference room for a Mythic press conference, Sami switched the stolen police tape with Kate's presentation tape. Kate made an impassioned speech about Mythic's moral standards and ran the tape -- footage of her and EJ having sex!
Lucas proposed to Sami. She was reluctant at first, but Lucas managed to convince her. EJ arrived and learned of the engagement. He also suspected Sami was pregnant.
Kate told Lucas she thought Sami was with EJ the night John was shot. Lucas didn't buy it and disowned Kate. Meanwhile, Celeste showed Sami a photo of Lexie's car taken in conjunction with a speeding ticket. Sami was driving and EJ was in the passenger seat! They vowed to keep the photograph a secret.
EJ confronted Sami with the proof of her pregnancy he found in her trash. Sami insisted the baby was Lucas's but EJ threatened to tell Lucas about having sex with her. He offered to keep Sami's secret if she found out from Roman what the Salem P.D. was up to. Disgusted Sami agreed.
In an effort to reach out, Sami asked Lucas to invite Kate to the wedding. Later, Sami made a full confession to God, but EJ overheard and knew he truly could be the father of her baby. He ordered her to have an amnio within the next 48 hours or he'd tell Lucas everything. Lucas found a hysterical Sami at the church, where she told him she wants to leave Salem for good with him and Will. Later, Celeste told Sami that the only way to be rid of EJ is to kill him!
Sami asked Nick to forge a lab report saying Lucas was the father of her baby. Nick refused but gave Sami a blank report.
Kate offered to throw Sami a bridal shower. Lucas distracted Sami so Kate could arrange the surprise bridal shower. Celeste warned Sami that she'd seen EJ talking to Nick.
Sami and Lucas left for a meeting with a representative of The Knot to discuss planning a "green" wedding. Later, Celeste showed up outside Sami's apartment and warned her that she couldn't expect to fool EJ; they had no choice but to kill him. Just then, the door opened to EJ and the other guests, who were there for Sami's shower. EJ dragged Sami into the bedroom for questioning. Kate questioned Celeste, who sent a text to Sami letting her know her cover story. Sami later tried to throw herself into the party, while EJ plotted to win her back.
EJ seemed devastated by the news that Sami's baby was not his, and he poured his heart out to her. Alone, he studied the lab report, then broke into Nick's lab to check out Sami's results. By faking a call to Lucas from Sami's doctor, EJ learned that she never had an amnio. He confronted her. Sami tried to convince EJ that she secretly wanted the baby to be his and tried to seduce him.
EJ put Sami to the test and gave her 24 hours to tell Lucas that the baby was not his. She had to meet EJ at the cabin where she "rescued" Lucas by 9PM or he would tell Lucas himself. EJ informed Sami that they were to be married in Las Vegas. Later, Sami made a one-way call; she needed to talk about killing EJ.
Celeste laid out her plan for Sami to kill EJ. Sami was to meet him at the cabin and kiss him wearing drugged lipstick. After EJ passed out, she would set the place on fire! Sami reluctantly agreed to the plan.
EJ revealed to Sami and Lucas he was leaving town to get married to a girl named Brandy Mathas. Meanwhile, Lucas planned a night for Sami at a fancy hotel. Time was running out for Sami as she tried to get out of the hotel suite. Celeste suggested she drug Lucas with the poisoned lipstick to knock him out. Kate figured out that "Brandy Mathas" was an anagram of Samantha Brady! She dragged Lucas out of the hotel suite to share her discovery. Lucas denied the accusations and demanded she leave them alone. Sami finally got the nerve to kiss Lucas, drugging him into a sleep. Sami and Celeste rushed to the cabin just in time. Sami tried to seduce EJ and wanted to kiss him, but he was on to her.
Sami finally tackled EJ, and kissed him unconscious. Celeste poured gasoline all over the cabin and left the match with Sami. Sami swore she didn't want to do this, but EJ forced her hand. With that, she struck the match!
Sami realized she wasn't a murderer; she couldn't kill EJ. She and Celeste were about to make a clean getaway when the cabin exploded and they heard EJ calling for help! Sami tried to get back into the cabin but couldn't get through the flames. She and Celeste raced away.
Meanwhile, Kate tried to break into Lucas' hotel room with a fire axe. A porter stopped her and opened the door. Lucas stirred awake. Just when Kate was telling him Sami had left with EJ, a freshly showered Sami entered from the bathroom. Sami suggested they rebuild homes for the needy for their honeymoon. Lucas agreed and they made love. Later, they got a call about the fire at the cabin. Sami was horrified to learn that EJ's remains weren't found. He was still alive!
The next morning, Sami found a partially burned gas can in her bed and hid it from Lucas. The next day, Sami met Celeste at the hotel suite and showed her the gas can. She begged Celeste to use her connection to the DiMeras to reach out to EJ. Later, Celeste made a mysterious phone call. At Chez Rouge, Sami was in the ladies' room where she discovered EJ!
Sami screamed and raced out into Lucas' arms. Lucas and Maggie found no trace of EJ. Sami fainted and was taken to the hospital. Kate found EJ's business card in the stall and went to the hospital to confront Sami. Meanwhile, EJ met with Celeste and we learned that he had been forcing her to do his bidding all along. Kate overheard that EJ and Celeste were in cahoots.
EJ showed up at Sami's hospital room and injected her IV with a syringe and told her she had two minutes to live. Sami screamed for help and Lucas rushed in, but she didn't die. Lucas wanted to know why EJ would want to kill Sami. Before she could confess, EJ arrived with flowers, acting as if he hadn't been there before.
Lucas tried to get him to leave the room. When EJ refused to go, Lucas left to get security. EJ promised Sami that her wedding would be a day to remember. Meanwhile, Kate paid a visit to Abe and snooped around his house. She found the photo of Sami and EJ in Lexie's car. Celeste arrived and caught her with the photo, but Kate snatched it back, determined to out Sami.
Kate arrived at the hospital with the photo, but EJ told her she couldn't ruin what he was planning for Sami and Lucas' wedding. She handed over the photo.
Sami prepared for her wedding. Sami continued to fret about marrying Lucas with secrets hanging over her head. Marlena convinces her to unburden herself to Lucas but when she tried, he stopped her. The wedding began, and when the priest asked if anyone objects, Sami spotted Kate and EJ at the back of the church.
EJ, however, didn't stop the wedding. Sami and Lucas were pronounced man and wife! Everyone headed to Chez Rouge, where Marlena presented a video of Sami and Lucas over the years. Stuck right in the middle was the photo of Sami and EJ. Sami sank to the ground, swearing her family did not know the whole story. Kate demanded Lucas leave since he knew Sami was a liar but he surprised everyone by asking Sami if she still wanted to be his wife. She said yes, he swept her up and carried her to the door where EJ was waiting. Sami got down and punched EJ! Later, EJ revealed to Kate that Sami's baby could be his.
Lucas took Sami home where he revealed that he knew all along that EJ helped her save his life in the cabin and he didn't care. Sami admitted that she had sex with EJ that night and the baby could be his. Lucas was on Sami's side and couldn't understand why she withheld the truth from him. Sami gave Lucas the option of leaving her if the baby was EJ's but he refused.
Sami and Lucas were getting ready to leave for their honeymoon when EJ showed up. Sami told EJ she confessed everything to Lucas. Kate forced EJ to admit he loves Sami. EJ left for Louisiana.
Sami and Lucas worked to rebuild an old mansion in New Orleans where they discovered a metal box in the wall, filled with letters written in Italian. Sami recognized the signature – DiMera! The foreman revealed they were in Maison Blanche. Then EJ showed up, claiming his father asked him to keep an eye on the place. He privately told Sami he wanted to patch things up and insisted he'd stay out of her life if she got an amnio and the baby was Lucas'. Celeste found EJ and gave him a message from Tony: Stefano's condition was deteriorating and they needed the stem cells immediately. Later, EJ told Celeste he wanted her to use voodoo to find out who was the baby's daddy. While they waited for the results, Celeste tried to convince EJ that Stefano would destroy his baby in order to live and, as a father, EJ was obligated to protect his child. When the ritual was finished, Celeste informed EJ the baby was his!
Back in Salem, EJ met with his half-brother Tony who demanded EJ bring him Sami. If anything happened to Stefano, EJ would pay for it with his life. EJ obliged, bringing Sami to Tony, but when he learned that Tony planned to take not just stem cells but the fetus, he put a stop to the surgery. He refused to let Tony touch Sami or her baby.
Meanwhile, letters that Sami and Lucas found in the mansion in New Orleans revealed clues about the origin of the ongoing feud between the families. The danger to Sami and her family grew as they got closer to the truth. Sami learned she was carrying twins and a DNA test showed that EJ was the father.
EJ's resentment towards his father and brother prompted him to spy on them for the Bradys, but his word remained questionable. Stefano dictated that the only way to end the feud was if EJ and Sami married and raised their twins together, but Sami resisted. Later, it was revealed that the babies were Lucas' and that Kate paid to have the test results show the opposite. Desperate to have Sami for himself, EJ played up the danger she and her family would be in if she did not comply. After John was killed by a hit-and-run driver, Sami agreed to divorce Lucas and marry EJ.
Sami gave birth to the twins, and another DNA test stated that Lucas was the father of the girl and EJ was the father of the boy. After she recovered, EJ pushed her to marry.
At the small ceremony, EJ was shot just after he and Sami said their vows. Stefano demanded Sami stand by her new husband as he recovered in the hospital, and continued to threaten the Bradys if she did not do as he said. As the Salem police department sought the identity of the shooter, EJ learned he might not walk again. Distraught, he urged Sami to go back to Lucas, but Sami refused. She convinced EJ that she truly cared for him and wanted him to get well for the sake of their son.
Sami tried to fulfill her promise to Stefano by seeing EJ through his recuperation, but found herself torn by her feelings for Lucas. Sami was devastated when she learned that Will was ashamed by her marriage to EJ and left to go to Switzerland. Lucas informed Sami that if she did not leave EJ, he would seek full custody of his daughter. Sami tried to seduce Lucas to prove she loved him, not EJ, but they were interrupted when EJ returned from the hospital and insisted on seeing his son.
As EJ got better, he increasingly pressured Sami to live up to her wifely duties. A horrified Sami gave him a harsh reminder that their marriage was a sham and that she would never love him. Sami continued to worry that Stefano would kidnap Baby Johnny, but EJ took a stand against his father and vowed that would not happen.
Evidence that Lucas was behind EJ's shooting piled up, and he was arrested. Lucas made an attempt to flee with Kate's help, but Sami stopped him. Sami was torn by her love for Lucas and her anger that he broke up their family. Lucas was sent back to prison to await trial.
EJ informed Sami and Marlena that his father and Dr. Rolf had been keeping a "man" in his basement laboratory. Salem soon discovered that the presumed-dead John had been Stefano's prisoner all this time!
Lucas finally admitted his crime, and after a tearful goodbye to Sami, he was sent off to state prison.
Though Stefano was sent to jail for kidnapping John, Sami and EJ were still in danger from him, and were sent to a safe house with the twins for protection. They grew closer, bonding over the care of the babies, but Sami fought against her feelings for EJ.
Later, Stefano was found in a catatonic state in his cell, and the threat was lifted. Sami and EJ made plans to get an annulment, but tragic death of her grandfather stalled them. Sami leaned on EJ for support.
Now, just as they are about to make the annulment official, EJ learns that his visa is about to expire and he is going to be deported. Desperate to keep her son's father in the country, Sami agrees to stay married until they can figure out another plan. Will Sami continue to pine for the imprisoned Lucas, or will she finally deal with the fact that she might have feelings for this new, redeemed EJ?
